Born with a VACUUM

Blaise Pascal said: “There is a God shaped vacuum in the heart of every man which cannot be filled by any created thing, but only by God, the Creator, made known through Jesus.”

[This means that all human beings are programmed to keep on searching for satisfaction in life, things like money, women, alcohol, etc…, but will only come to peace after an encounter with Jesus Christ.]

From DARKNESS to LIGHT

Hudson Taylor, the missionary who brought the Christian light to China, said in his dairy that he was converted from ‘darkness' to ‘light’.

He said: "… the things I used former to delight, now gives me no pleasure, while reading the Word, prayer in the meansw of grace, that was formerly deceitful to me, is now my delight.”

[Very interesting the lie of Satan, who let people think they will not have fun in life, once they start a personal relationship with Christ.]

The DARKNESS could not overcome the LIGHT

In my own life, I also experienced a similar scenario 34 years ago.

On the edge of suicide, I read the Bible and discovered a truth: “the light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it”. (John 1:5)

I realized at least three truths in my life at that very hour:

 

  • I, Pieter Brits, was the darkness, trying to quench God’s light in my life
  • <!--[if !supportLists]--><!--[endif]-->I was on my way to hell
  • <!--[if !supportLists]--><!--[endif]-->All the darkness in the world is not powerful enough to overcome God’s light in my life.

On my knees I cried like a baby, with tears of anger and frustration about so many things where I felt mistreated.

An hour later, when I was “empty” before God, I prayed a short little prayer that changed everything for ever more:

  • I acknowledged that I am a sinner,
  • <!--[if !supportLists]--><!--[endif]-->I thanked God that He loves even me, by sending Jesus to die for my sins on the cross,
  • <!--[if !supportLists]--><!--[endif]-->then I asked Jesus to come into my life, in order to become the person He wants me to be.

Everything changed that day. Since April 1974 the light also overcame the darkness in my past. Today I run the race with perseverance, with my eyes fixed on Jesus, the Author and Perfector of my faith. (Hebrews 12:1-2)
