Newsflash (2014-05-23)

Due to a childhood injury in his left foot, which caused much pain and discomfort over the years, Pieter finally made the decision for an operation. This took place on May, 6th. Two bones in his foot were fastened with 3 screws and 2 staples.

Since our previous newsletter, we were quite busy with many challenges – this time not so much ministry, as personal stuff.

FOOT OPERATION
Due to a childhood injury in his left foot, which caused much pain and discomfort over the years, Pieter finally made the decision for an operation. This took place on May, 6th. Two bones in his foot were fastened with 3 screws and 2 staples.

At this stage he is still adjusting to walk with the crutches. Luckily he was able to vote (on his way home from hospital!), as there was a wheelchair available at the voting station in Kleinmond.

Initially, the plaster was supposed to stay on for 6 weeks, and then moonboot for 2 weeks . With the 10-day follow-up visit, the doctor surprised us with the good news that Pieter may immediately switch over to the moonboot. He has no pain, and the wound has healed quickly. Praise the Lord for this!

According to the doctor, the operation was successful and Pieter will experience much more comfort without the regular pain. The challenge is to be patient being on crutches for such a long time. Magdaleen now has double responsibility with many things. Please pray for effective recovery and patience.

GOODBYE BLUE UNO!
The blue Uno is family! We bought it (already 2nd hand!) when our eldest son Peet got his drivers license many years ago. Five years ago we bought it over from Peet when Kobus got his license. Over the years many repairs were done to the blue Uno. Beginning of May, when Kobus again got a breakdown at night on his way to Cape Town in a very unsafe area, we finally decided it is no longer worth the risk.

After much prayer and debate, we bought a demo Toyota Etios for a very reasonable price. We are truly thankful for the way the Lord has provided! Please pray for the Lord’s protection.

MINISTRY CONTINUES
Amidst all the challenges, both Pieter and Magdaleen were still able to carry on with online mentoring as the requests come in as usual.

Please pray for new ministry opportunities in our area for Pieter. At this stage he is consulting with management at the age old home in Kleinmond to extend the Wellness Ministry among the residents.
