Beginning your new life with Christ

Bible verses from New Living Translation (NLT)

The moment that you, as an act of faith, receive Jesus Christ into your life to be your Lord and Saviour He comes in. This is what He promises in Revelation 3:20.

Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if any man hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him…

  • Have you received Christ into your life in this way?
  • If so, where is Jesus Christ right now in relation to you?
  • On this basis of Revelation 3:20 how do you know that Christ is in Your Life?

Now that you have received Jesus Christ into your life, you have established a personal relationship with Him.

You have now become a child of God. You do not become a child of God by living a good life or being born into a Christian family. The word “Christian” means “Christ in one” - Christ living in you. The Bible tells us that many things happen when Christ comes to live in you.

A NEW RELATIONSHIP

1) What does the resurrection prove to us about Jesus Christ? (Romans 1:4)

…and he was shown to bet the Son of God when he was raised from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit. He is Jesus Christ our Lord.

2) Who is Jesus Christ? (1 John 5:20)

And we know that the Son of God has come, and he has given us understanding so that we can know the true God. And now we live in fellowship with the true God because we live in fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ. He is the only true God, and he is eternal life.

3) What would be the result for us if Christ had not risen from the dead? (1 Corinthians 15:13-17)

13 For if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised either.14 And if Christ has not been raised, then all our preaching is useless, and your faith is useless.15 And we apostles would all be lying about God—for we have said that God raised Christ from the grave. But that can’t be true if there is no resurrection of the dead.16 And if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised.17 And if Christ has not been raised, then your faith is useless and you are still guilty of your sins.

4.a) What did you become when you received Christ? (John 1 :1 2)

I am writing to you who are God’s children because your sins have been forgiven through Jesus.

b) Since other Christians are also God’s children, what is your relationship to them?

Salvation is God’s favour freely given to man when he puts his faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour resulting in the forgiveness of sin.

5.a) Is salvation the reward of a man’s good works? (Ephesians 2:8, 9)

8 God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.

b) How is salvation obtained?

6) Have you received forgiveness for your sins? (Colossians 1:13, 14)

13 For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, 14 who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.

7.a) Will Christ ever leave you? (Hebrews 13:5; John 10:28,29)

Hebrews 13:5 …. For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.

John 10:28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me,29 for my Father has given them to me, and he is more powerful than anyone else. No one can snatch them from the Father’s hand.

b) Since Christ has promised never to leave you, how many times do you have to invite Him to come into your life?

A NEW LIFE

Read 1 John 5:11-13

11 And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life. Conclusion 13 I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life.

1) Where is eternal life found? (1 John 5:11) 2) If a person has Christ in his life, what kind of life does he have? (1 John 5:13) 3 a)Can a person know that he has eternal life right now? (1 John 5:13) b)Do you know that you have eternal life? c)How do you know?

A NEW ADVENTURE

1) Now that you have Christ in your life, what have you become? (II Corinthians 5:17)

17 This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!

2) What can separate you from Christ? (Romans 8:38, 39)

38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

2) Who can take you away from Christ? (John 10:27-29)

27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them away from me, 29 for my Father has given them to me, and he is more powerful than anyone else. No one can snatch them from the Father’s hand.

CONCLUSION

1) On the basis of this study what are some of the things that you know are true of your life right now?

2) Would you like to thank God right now for what He has done for you? (Thanking God demonstrates faith!)
