Set Free by God’s Forgiveness

One time, during a JESUS film showing in Thabazimbi, I experienced again the wonderful, life-changing power of God in people’s lives.

After the third evening’s showing at the same place, I gave a short teaching, as I usually did, on “God’s Love and Forgiveness.”
The main message was about confessing our sins and the freeing truth that God forgives us when we confess our sins to Him.

After the teaching, just before we packed up the equipment, four young men came to me and asked:
“Are you sure that the Lord will also forgive our sins if we ask Him?”

They assured me that they had already invited Jesus into their lives on the first evening. Yet they were still struggling with strong feelings of guilt.

After a short conversation, I was able to send them home with great joy and this assurance:
“Then your sins have also been nailed to that cross. And according to Hebrews 13:5 (NLT), God will never fail you, he will never abandon you.”

They did not want to tell me what they had done. But one of them said something that deeply touched me:
“If you are sure that God has forgiven us, we will not continue doing what we have been doing.”
What a wonderful picture of true repentance!

God’s forgiveness is not a licence to continue in sin. His grace sets us free to choose a new path — a path that honours Him.

My Prayer for You

May you, like these four young men, personally experience the freeing power of God’s forgiveness, and make choices that set you free and bring honour to God.

Vrygemaak deur God se vergifnis

Eenkeer, tydens ’n JESUS-filmvertoning in Thabazimbi het ek opnuut die wonderlike, nuutmakende krag van God in mense se lewens beleef.

Ná afloop van die derde aand se vertoning op dieselfde plek, het ek soos gewoonlik ’n kort lering gegee oor “God se Liefde en Vergifnis”.
Die kern van die boodskap was die belydenis van sonde en die bevrydende waarheid dat God ons sonde vergewe wanneer ons dit voor Hom bely.

Ná die lering, net voor ons die apparaat afslaan, het vier jongmanne na my toe gekom en gevra:
“Is u seker dat die Here ook óns sondes sal vergewe as ons Hom daarvoor vra?”

Hulle het my verseker dat hulle reeds die eerste aand vir Jesus in hulle lewens ingenooi het. Tog het hulle steeds met geweldige skuldgevoelens geworstel.

Ná ‘n kort gesprek kon ek hulle met groot vreugde huistoe stuur met hierdie versekering:
“Dan is ook júlle sondes aan daardie kruishout vasgespyker. En volgens Hebreërs 13:5 (NLV) sal God nooit los of in die steek laat nie.”

Hulle wou my nie vertel wat hulle gedoen het nie. Maar een van hulle het iets gesê wat my diep geraak het:
“As u seker is dat God ons vergewe het, sal ons nie meer voortgaan met dit wat ons doen nie.”

Wat ’n wonderlike beeld van ware bekering!
God se vergifnis is nie ’n lisensie om met sonde voort te gaan nie. Sy genade maak ons juis vry om ’n nuwe pad te kies – ’n pad wat Hom eer.

My gebed vir jou:

Mag ook jy, soos hierdie vier jongmanne, die bevrydende krag van God se vergifnis persoonlik beleef, en keuses maak wat jou vrymaak en God verheerlik.
